Housing First Auckland is pleased to see ending homelessness and using Housing First is a priority for our new coalition Government. We congratulate the new Minister and Associate Minster of Housing and Urban Development, respectively, Hon Phil Twyford and Hon Jenny Salesa.
Ten years on from the 2007 ‘Responding to Homelessness in Aotearoa New Zealand’ edition of Parity magazine, the Australian Council to Homeless Persons produce has produced a 2017 anniversary edition. This publication is a point-in-time record of how we have responded to the increases in homelessness since the first publication was produced.
NZ Herald reporter Corazon Miller recently caught up with Aroha, who now has the keys to her own home after more than 25 years living on the street. Aroha is being supported through the Auckland City Centre Housing First programme – which is a partnership between the Auckland City Mission and Lifewise.
Daniel Davidson, 48, lives in Auckland. He has recently moved into his first home in 10 years, which was arranged through the Auckland City Centre Housing First Programme, a partnership between Lifewise and Auckland City Mission.
Daniel was homeless for 10 years before he found a home through the City Centre’s Housing First programme (Auckland City Mission and Lifewise working in partnership). He recently joined Auckland City Mission’s Chris Farrelly on the AM Show on World Homeless Day to talk about how finding a home has changed his life.
