Community Housing Aotearoa and Housing First Auckland present a webinar with Brook Turner on Self-determined housing options for youth leaving care.
Brook Turner will present his Master’s research on Self-determined housing options for youth leaving care. Brook is Head of Service Development and Partnerships at Visionwest Community Trust. Brook has 20 years of social services experience and has learned a range of community development approaches including social enterprise.
In relation to housing, we know that young people leaving the care system fare worse than most. Failed transitions out of care often feed into homelessness numbers, yet we rarely ask care leavers what they want in terms of housing. Brook’s research paints a comprehensive picture of the need and desperation many youth face without adequate housing, and looks at what is being done to address this here in NZ and internationally.
