Community worker talks about freedom and opportunity for all

Brook Turner, 37, is a west Aucklander living in Massey. He's dedicated 20 years of his life to community development and equal liberty. He joined community services organisation VisionWest in 2016 as its community service development, which includes its Housing First service. The Western Leader caught up with Brook to talk about his role and how it has changed him.

Auckland collective welcomes Housing First expansion

The announcement by Government to expand Housing First into more areas where there is the most need included funding for the Housing First Auckland collective to end homelessness for 100 more chronically homeless people. This takes the number of people the collective is funded to support from 472 to 572.

Homelessness still needs a national strategy

Social development agency Lifewise commends Bill Englishs acknowledgement of the Housing First collective and its delivery of tangible results, and states that the Government still needs a nationwide strategy to tackle the problem.
