On behalf of Housing First Auckland Collective (Auckland City Mission, Kāhui Tū Kaha, Lifewise, LinkPeople, Visionwest and Housing First Backbone (Wise Group)), we have prepared a 2021 Briefing for Housing Ministers to outline and support our work together with the government over the upcoming year.

The partnership established in 2017 between the New Zealand Government, Auckland Council and Housing First Auckland has been highly successful, with over 1,420 people supported from homelessness to a housing solution, including 562 children. Underpinning this success is our work on ensuring that Housing First works for Māori. Our collective focus on Tāiki, our kaupapa Māori framework, helps adapt the internationally successful Housing First approach for the Aotearoa New Zealand context. The results for tenancy sustainment among Māori surpass those of indigenous people in a Canadian study of Housing First, for example.

Our briefing sets out opportunities for us to continue to collaborate to create solutions to the challenges facing Auckland in regard to housing and homelessness.
