Kāhui Tū Kaha has made the decision to part from the Housing First Auckland Collective to increase its focus on working with the Māori homelessness sector through the Arohanui ki te Tangata collective.

Auckland City Mission, Lifewise, LinkPeople, Visionwest and Wise Group, the remaining members of Housing First Auckland, recognise the significant contribution of Kāhui Tū Kaha and wish to celebrate this important milestone that signifies growth in by Māori for Māori solutions to end homelessness.

The Housing First Auckland Collective came together formally in March 2017 – six organisations committed to ensuring that homelessness in Aotearoa is rare, brief and non-recurring.

Together we adapted the internationally successful Housing First model to fit the context of Aotearoa NZ, where tangata whenua represent over 50% of people experiencing chronic homelessness.

We have worked with whānau to achieve 920 whānau housed, developed Tāiki, our framework for working with Māori, and delivered an Auckland-wide approach to rapidly sheltering people in motels during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020.

Kāhui Tū Kaha have brought manaakitanga, rangatiratanga and whakawhanaungatanga to our Collective, and have been critical in contributing to our collective learning and growth.

The Housing First Auckland Collective and Kāhui Tū Kaha will continue to work closely together to address homelessness in Auckland.
