Housing situations are not consistently recorded across support services

When people seek support across areas such as income, employment, food security, family violence, disability, and financial wellbeing, housing situations are not always consistently recorded. Capturing this information would support a more informed and tailored response to people’s needs.

Housing is a key determinant of wellbeing and influences a wide range of social outcomes. Strengthening the consistency of data collection across areas such as health, housing, education, employment, justice, and social support would support a more complete understanding of need.

When housing data is integrated across systems, it can support a more informed and effective response. Improved visibility would help build a clearer understanding of need, support more targeted interventions, and strengthen coordination across services. This highlights an opportunity to strengthen data visibility and coordination across systems to better support people experiencing housing instability.
